This installation piece is part of a series exploring placemaking and identity through the architecture of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey.
Hagia Sophia has undergone many architectural transformations, survived fires and earthquakes, raids, destruction, and changed religious and political hands. These changes reflect and offer insight into the changes and transformations exhibited in Constantinople/Istanbul and Turkey overall.Â
Using objective information and personal anecdotes and experiences from residents of Turkey, the installation offers the viewer an opportunity to gain new perspectives on a location with a rich and complex history.
